Center of Gravity Root Rig

A center of gravity root rig has it’s root established at the center of gravity. The center of gravity is a point in space in a volume of a mesh in which the forces of gravity, acceleration and rotation are zero unless acted upon.

Use a C-G Root rig for:

• Ballistics
• Acrobatics
• Performance

Ground Shadow Rig (A Better C-G Rig)

Use a Ground Shadow Rig for:

• Navigation
• Walk and run cycles
• Reliable character location

The ground shadow rig is worse at acrobatics as it easily confuses the animator as to what behavioral control is affecting the movement (ground shadow or center of gravity).
