Type data is GPU Particles. The benefit is that this is calculated on the GPU, and therefore you can use higher numbers (generally) than a normal CPU particle. GPU particles are perfect for high detail/frequency effects (e.g., embers or sparks).
GPU Particle emitters are unique in that they can utilize vector field (.fga) file types.
Vector fields can be baked out from a fluid simulation. Helps to create noise and other effects that cannot be achieved with a normal effect system.
Tightness - How accurate the particles follow the vector field.
